TNG Volunteer Appointment Process

This page outlines the process of appointing a new team member of The Next Generation Ministry workforce.

Before an adult member of CCiL is appointed to volunteer in any of our Kids Church or Youth Ministry groups, s/he may be invited to observe for a number of weeks, under the supervision of the relevant ministry group’s Team Leader.

If they are then invited to apply for a serving role, i.e. Kids Church Helper/Teacher or Youth Leader, then the process below is to be followed.

If you have any issues or queries, please speak to the relevant ministry group Team Leader or email safeguarding@ccil.org.uk for the attention of our TNG Pastoral Team and Safeguarding Lead – Rev. Ollie Knight.

Part 1: Application

Step 1. Read the TNG Ministry Overview Document (click to open links to documents and forms in a new tab).

Step 2. Complete the Application Form and return this to the TNG Pastoral Team via the Team Leader of the relevant ministry group.

Step 3. If the application is satisfactory, you may be invited for an interview to allow the ministry leaders to get to know you, and for you to ask any questions about the role.

Part 2: Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

Step 1. Complete and return the Self-Declaration Form, retaining page 3 for your own reference.

Step 2. Follow the instructions on our DBS Applicant Info Sheet to submit an enhanced DBS application online.

Step 3. The online application needs to be reviewed by one of our appointed recruiters, who needs to see original copies of three identity documents according to the ID Documents Guide. Only then will the DBS check be processed by the organisation ThirtyOne:Eight, formerly known as the Churches Child Protection and Advisory Service.

Step 4. The results will be shared with the lead recruiter. Your DBS certificate will be sent directly to your home address to be retained for your own records. Note that you may be asked to produce this document in the future.

Part 3: Safeguarding Training

Complete the online CCiL Safeguarding Basic Training course by following these steps:

  • Join the course on Google Classroom.
  • Click the ‘Classwork’ tab at the top of the page.
  • Read through the fact sheet in each section. Some sections have a short video to watch.
  • Go back to the ‘Classwork’ tab and complete the comprehension question for each section.
  • Your progress will be tracked. Please ensure all sections 1-8 are complete.

Part 4: Appointment confirmation

When the above steps have been followed, please submit the TNG Workforce Registration Form. The photo provided will be used to issue your ID badge, which confirms your appointment as a member of the TNG Ministry Workforce.
