Both the Book of Kings and the Book of Chronicles record the rise and fall of kings. The difference between
the two books lies in the fact that Chronicles focuses more on the relationship between the rise and fall of
kings. Chronicles emphasizes the message of “those who seek God receive His blessing, while those who
forsake Him face His judgment.” (2 Chronicles 7:14). Some kings in the Book of Kings are described as doing
evil in the sight of the Lord, or even only having evil records (e.g., Rehoboam, Abijah, and Manasseh), while
others are described as doing right in the sight of the Lord, or even nearly only having good records (e.g.,
Jehoshaphat and Josiah). However, Chronicles records the good deeds of these evil kings as well as the evil deeds of the good kings.

We have deliberately selected eight kings from the Book of Chronicles whose lives contained both good and evil, sometimes seeking God and sometimes abandoning Him. We hope that we can learn spiritual lessons from them, understanding that abandoning God and doing evil leads to the path of downfall Only by seeking God with all our heart and turning away from evil can we rebuild our relationship with God, and walk on the path of blessings and revival.
