Discipleship basics in Philippians: the model of Paul as a follower of Jesus. Paul began as a high-profile persecutor of the church. He was converted by Christ and called to be Christ’s follower and disciple. For Paul, ‘to live is Christ and to die is gain; also ‘whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ’. Paul’s model of discipleship is total surrender to Christ the Lord.
